~What's happening in Room B9~

In Math we are finishing covering our 5th grade math content. Once we are done with the last few units, we will be covering 6th grade content to get the students ready for middle school math. In Writing we are working on Persuasive Essays. Each student has chosen a topic to focus on in his/her persu asive essay, and we are writing them in class. Students do need to do some at home research on their topics to be prepared for their in class writing. The Persuasive Essays are due May 25th. We are now participating in our Civil War Simulation. We are learning about the history of the Civil War over the new few weeks of school. The students now have information on their next Book Report Assignment, a Poetry Recital. Each student has signed up for a recital date. They need to practice their poem so that they know it by heart to recite to the class. Recitals will be the week of May 21st through May 25th. Please refer to the Projects Page for specifics.  The Curie Performance is this week. We also have our last classroom auction coming up next week. Donations are greatly appreciated!

Civil War Simulation

We are continuing our learning of United States history with the Civil War. In the next few weeks the students will be participating in simulations at school to experience this important time in history. This experience includes taking on Civil War identities, working in contingents, and battling between the North and the South (the battle progresses with a point system). We are enjoying this exciting experience. Talk to your children about what they are learning.

                   Curie Performance

This week is the annual Curie Performance. The Curie students, parents, and teachers have been working hard on perfecting the dances and skits. Good luck to all the performers. Mrs. Daglio cannot wait to see the show!

B9's May Birthdays

Room B9 has no birthdays this month. We do have Gavin and Cameron with birthdays in June.

It's May already! They say that April showers bring May flowers. It will be nice to be done with the rain and enjoying the San Diego sunshine.  It will be another busy month for Room B9. We have the Curie Performance, the Volunteer Tea, Hyatt Career Day, our Poetry Recitals, our Marine Science Floating Lab Field Trip, and the Junior Olympics! This year is quickly coming to a close. Make sure to enjoy these last weeks.
